Exclusion is a never-ending global pandemic and I strongly believe that if the so-called “powers that be” could, they would exclude certain people from even accessing water by commercializing this God, given commodity. The importance of internet access is equivalent to water in my socialistic opinion thus I’m of the opinion that the latter should be a basic human right.
Our country possesses and oozes potential but lacks resources at crucial moments. How does one reconcile the fact that our data prices are the highest in the world and yet we have the likes of Telkom which is a parastatal and therefore, should be subsidizing data and voice prices. Rural-based youth suffer the most and this, unfortunately, puts them on a back foot when compared to urban millennials.
Access to the internet is becoming crucial by the hour as we enter the Metaverse, a virtual world where people will be able to host meetings, host parties, and host of other things. Internet is free in 1st world countries, and this can be seen in the technological advancements made in their countries, not to mention dropout billionaires who only had the internet and dream.
The day our government gets serious about basic service delivery and ensures that all citizens have access to the internet is the day we will claim our rightful number one position in the African continent through sheer innovation that will create employment for others.
